“Happiness is only real when shared.”

Bags are packed, gooodbyes are being said, and finals are over (although I have not mentioned it once, we did take classes while here.) It’s so hard to believe that in less that 24 hours, we will be on a plane headed back to Mississippi. It took months of planning and preparation to come here and now we are getting ready to leave and it just doesn’t seem right! These past few weeks have been some of the best of my life and I cannot believe that it’s all coming to an end so soon.

Since my trip here is winding down, I began to  think about all of the things that I’ll be sad to leave behind and all of the things that made me appreciate America more (Happy early 4th of July!)

I WON’T miss:

1) Not knowing the language of the country that I’m living in.

2) The lights cutting off on me while I’m in the restroom.

3) Having no toilet seats.

4) Having to pay for water.

5) Recyling EVERY SINGLE PIECE OF TRASH that we have.

6) Weather that’s so hot it’ll make a flower wither. (Literally had a flower in my hair and it withered into nothing but a stem after I stepped into the sun.)

7) Mystery meat that is served on campus.

8) Men trying to sell me flowers and lighters on the streets.

I WILL miss:

1) Every person that I was blessed to get to know and meet along the way. Image

My api group (also Tommy who isn’t in the picture)

2) Taking horrible pictures with Randi and Michael.

3) The wine corks that are always wedged in between cobblestones in the street.

4) Suppli, suppli, suppli

5) Being able to find a pizzaria around every corner and having my pizza folded over and taken to go.

6) The sweet old man who says, “Bonjourno!” to us every morning when we pass by to go to class.

7) Getting the accordion played for me while I’m eating dinner.

8) All of the sweet Italians that I’m leaving behind, including Cristina and Allesio.

9) The beautiful architecture of virtually every building in Italy.

10) Passing ancient ruins on a casual walk.

11) Many, many more things that I could bore you with.

In closing, I would like to say that although I am sad to be leaving here, I cannot wait to get back and see all of my wonderful friends and family who are so precious to me! Also, thank you for continuing to read my scatter-brained blog posts and dumb stories.

This trip has been wonderful and I am so thankful to my Creator for the relationships that I’ve made, the things that I’ve learned, and the things that I’ve seen. Italy is a beautiful place, and life is a beautiful thing!

“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands; Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge.
They have no speech, they use no words; no sound is heard from them.Yet their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world.” Psalm 19:1-4

And for my dear friend Randi…..

Gandalf: “I am looking for someone to share in an adventure that I am arranging, and it’s very difficult to find anyone.”

Bilbo: “I should think so—in these parts! We are plain quiet folk and have no use for adventures. Nasty disturbing uncomfortable things! Make you late for dinner! I can’t think what anybody sees in them …”

Gandalf:  “You’ll have a tale or two to tell when you come back.”

Bilbo:  “You can promise that I’ll come back?”

Gandalf:  “No. And if you do, you will not be the same.”

  1. Corley,
What an awesome post! You are a talented storyteller and writer. I wonder where you get your love for writing??? Can’t wait to see you and Randy. Try to get as much rest on the plane as possible; you are going to be emotionally drained anyway, and “jet-lagged” out.
    Love you,
    Dad
P.S. I can’t imagine a more appropriate scripture to end your blog;and “ain’t it the truth?!”
